Modern Meditation in Cologne, Germany
Meditation for the modern man
The word Meditation comes from Latin and means to center.
More and more people long to feel themselves and their center in our fast and demanding world.
All cultures, east and west, have developed techniques to be more attentive and self-aware. For a while now meditation not only exists in a religious context but has become more and more part of out culture and we can learn to meditate without being part of an ideology or religion.
What is meditation?
Meditation means to give space to what is real in the moment in oneself. Meditation means to give mindful and loving attention to the body, the mind, the emotions and to accept them as they are in the moment.
In Meditation we learn how to be mindful of ourselves. It sharpens our awareness for the moment and functions as an anchor to stay present. It helps us to perceive ourselves beyond known thought patterns, memories, fears and plans.
Sometimes precious insights emerge and sometimes we enter a space of silence beyond our usual concerns where all that matters is to be.
Why meditate?
The human being has a natural ambition towards happiness and peace, but life includes inevitable pain and suffering. We are not able to control everything that happens in life but we can learn to deal with it in the best way possible.
Through meditation we learn not to be affected by all our thoughts and emotions all the time. Through meditation we become more awake, more alive and can accept the ups and downs of life more easily. We become more sensitive towards ourselves and others and through this can ultimately change all our circumstances and relationships with people.
Ancient and modern meditation techniques
For many people traditional and passive ways of meditating are difficult in the beginning. It is difficult to sit silently and watch the breath for example (e.g. Vipassana meditation). The body is hurting and the mind is spinning and very quickly you think: Meditation is not for me.
With new more active methods one gets picked up from the start in an often very stressful daily life. They have been adjusted to the modern human being.
Nowadays we engage in meditations where we first make sure that the body is more relaxed and that the mind slows down. In this way beginners also find a way to taste the alertness and aliveness that comes with regular meditation practice.
The type of meditation you choose is a matter of experience.
In my courses you have the opportunity to get to know many different techniques, ask questions and experiment. You will find out which meditations are good for you and how to realistically integrate them best into your daily life.
